Atop her head are a set of dark cat ears, and she has a tail to match. Her skin is quite tanned from all her running about outside. Her hair is kept in two long, blonde braids the reach to her waist. Because of how she dresses, few actually know what Taika’s face really looks like. The hood and mask she wears usually scare people to a point where they’d rather not find out, but worry not, it is nothing so gruesome. Behind Taika’s mask is a perfectly normal looking girl with a pair of bright red eyes. She generally wears a mischievous smile, which will reveal some rather sharp teeth. Moving right along with her not quite human qualities, Taika’s nails are very sharp and pointed on both her hands and feet. For clothing, Taika wears anything that’s easy to move around in and has a hood. Being a spy, she generally tries to avoid anything bright in color and sticks to black, greys, and blues for the most part. Her usual state of dress will be a tank top hidden underneath a hoodie and some sort form of sweatpants. You aren’t very likely to see her wearing shoes. Taika dislikes anything on her feet and generally just traipses around barefoot for the most part. In addition, she’ll keep the hood of whatever she’s wearing up and don a black mask with red eyes and a jagged, deranged smiled stitched into it. This is partially to conceal her identity and also because she enjoys giving anyone who happens upon her vantage points a good scare. Thankfully she isn’t always running around being sneaky, so you won’t always find her like this. If she’s just taking a cat nap somewhere or just wandering about the town, she’ll look like your average everyday person save for the cat ears and tail of course. She’ll begrudgingly slip on a pair of flats and a sun dress and that will probably be it. She doesn’t see the point in dressing up or wearing copious amounts of clothing. She doesn’t bother with jewelry save for one simple piece. Taika wears a gold band around her right wrist, a gift to her from her father and her only keepsake of his. It also serves as a tracking device so even if she neglects to report in, the Rogues can still find her and figure out what she’s found for them. PERSONALITY Outwardly, Taika appears every bit just a sweet and caring young woman. She smiles and waves a anybody who looks at her and has no issues striking up a friendly conversation with them. Generally a bit ditzy, she’s very curious and gets into just about anything. But of course that’s just the top layer. Get past that, and Taika is wild. Sure she’s playful, right up until she bites you and draws blood. Of course it’s just a playful pat on the back until you feel her nails digging into your skin before she tears your arm off. Taika’s instincts overrule her humanity more often than not, making her very dangerous for normal humans to be around her. For the most part she can keep it in check and toe the line, but once it gets dark out all bets are off. She’s a good listener, to a point since at times it almost seems like she has selective hearing. Must be a cat thing. In addition you’ll find her fascinated with anything feathery and it isn’t odd to see her chasing after birds. Just don’t be around if she actually catches one, things get a bit ugly after that. With those she knows and cares for, Taika is very affectionate. With her friends that she loves and trusts, it’s all hugs and purring from her. The downside to her affection is that her ideas of gifts are usually dead animals, or indeed dead humans, on your doorsteps or unceremoniously shoved into your mailbox. Taika really doesn’t act all that suspicious of others either, caution just isn’t in her for whatever reason. She’ll wander right over to a stranger if they catch her eye. The only issue is that she may stalk and kill them as prey at a later date. Aggression is tricky with Taika. She doesn’t necessarily hurt people out of anger towards them, although it’s certainly happened in the past. In truth, she’s very difficult to anger, really only becoming to defensive if she feels she is being held down or oppressed in some way. Restricted her freedom is a surefire way to get her mad at you, but she forgives and forgets quite easily with a few gentle words and pat on the head. But then there are those pesky instincts again. Taika likes to kill things, plain and simple. It’s a compulsion for her, and it makes her happy and leaves her with a great sense of satisfaction after having done so. While she may not kill out of malice, she unfortunately doesn’t always limit her prey to birds and rodents. She can and has stalked human prey for days under cover of darkness before killing them in quite gruesome ways. Her favorite technique appears to be breaking their legs or ankles so they can’t escape and then gutting. She then plays with the corpse for a while before displaying it somewhere obvious as a way of showing off her skills, however she is of course always careful not to get caught. Jail is not on her list of place she wants to go. She’s had enough of being kept in a cage thank you very much. Taika can also be a bit hard to keep track of. Once would expect this of a spy, but even the Rogues she works for often have a tough time getting her to meet to discuss anything she may have possibly learned from her observations. You’ll be talking with her, turn your back for a split second, and then she’ll have up and disappeared. It’s the main reason they have a tracking device on her, so they can find her easily if she doesn’t report in. Speaking of that, Taika isn’t very good at keep her appointments. She reports in when she wants to or when she discovers something she can tell is important, other than that she is a bit rebellious and appears to have selective hearing when it comes to dates and times. This is also due to her having a bit of a bad memory, suspected to be a side effect of her genetic modification. She seems unable to remember certain places and certain events of her past, mainly her escape from the lab. Whether she genuinely forgets something or is just being stubborn isn’t easy to tell so it’s best to just not mention it. Overall Taika is a free spirit that just wants to live her life and have some fun while doing it. EXTRAS Likes: + Sunshine + Naps + Fish + High Places + Feathers Dislikes: - Rain - Cages - Rules - Humans - Needles Talents: + Tracking – This talent stems partly from her genetic modification, partly from training. With her feline instincts, Taika naturally has the instinct to track and stalk her prey, or rather the people she’s supposed to be spying on. While not quite as adept at tracking scents as a canine would be, she can do that as well as follow footprints and follow along silently. She dashes around corners, lurks in the shadows, and keeps an eye on her target as best she can. When she’s tracking, she’s in the zone. Taika will be completely focused on her prey, er, target and not notice much else around her. + Sleeping – Taika, when not out in the middle of the night spying, spends much of her time asleep. Not only can she sleep for up to twenty hours a day sometimes, she can also fall asleep pretty much anywhere. She could be all cozy in bed, she could be on someone’s roof, she doesn’t care. She could be completely alone or in crowded place, she doesn’t care. If she’s gonna sleep, Taika’s gonna sleep and location doesn’t matter one bit to her. + Parkour – A talent that Taika has been building up practically since she could walk. She’s always had an affinity for climbing things and perching in high places. As she grew older, this escalated from climbing bookcases and hiding on top of the fridge to scaling walls and leaping across rooftops. While Taika has no clue that the tricks she uses to climb buildings and jump across balconies actually has a name, it’s just something she does and comes naturally to her almost. COMBAT Strengths: + Quick Reflexes + High Stamina + Physically Strong Weaknesses: - Low Endurance - Lower Intelligence - Very Easily Distracted Power Strengths: + Excellent Balance + Heightened Senses (hearing, smell, sight, etc.) + Sharp Teeth and Nails Power Weaknesses: - Her feline instincts often overpower her humanity most of the time - Her hearing is highly sensitive - Catnip Power: Genetic Modification: Feline - Taika’s powers happened upon her in the form of genetic modification at the hands of scientists. Without it, she’d have been born a normal human girl. They essentially tried to develop a feline-human hybrid, and for the most part succeeded. Part of her genetic sequence was copied and cloned from some kind of wild cat, the specifics of which are a bit iffy. The modification granted her the cat ears and tail that are a very obvious part of her empowered status. It also gives her those sharp nails of hers that come in handy for climbing as well as combat. In addition, Taika is endowed with the wonderful balance one would expect of a cat, usually landing gracefully when falling from high places and being able to walk across thin beams and the like while normal people would wobble and fall. She can purr, meow, and make any noises you’d expect of your everyday cat. However there is a downside. Along with feline aspects come the instincts of the wild animal part of Taika’s DNA is made up of. While of a human mind for the most part, there are times where her animal instincts take over. She stalks people as though they were prey, pouncing upon them and tearing them open like kills. She will not listen to reason and her humanity is often lost at this point as she enjoys the thrill of the hunt. Taika also appears to have some sort of defect from this genetic modification in that her memory is very spotty. She’s also got a soft spot for catnip. HISTORY Taika was born to an unnamed mother by the whims of a Rogue scientist. Genetic modification was tricky, after all, and whether she would even be born alive at all had been open to much speculation. Luckily the monster was born perfectly healthy, coming into the world kick and screaming at the unfairness of it all. Her younger years were spent mainly around her father in his lab. He kept her close to observe her progress. It was obvious that the experiment had been a success since she had been born with cat ears and a matching tail; both covered in dark fur that contrasting sharply against her blonde hair. As a little girl she would switch between the normal running around screaming and playing with dolls one would expect before insisting upon climbing the books cases and falling asleep on her father’s desk chair. She would be perfectly capable of speech and then suddenly Taika would be seen following one of the lab techs around, crawling low to the ground on all fours and ready to pounce as soon as their guard was down. Nothing too threatening at all, but of course she was only a little girl. Lion cubs are fairly harmless too when still cute and cuddly. As Taika grew older, the instincts of the wild cat seemed to become more dominant. She was rebellious, refusing to listen to her caretakers and often escaping to prowl the lab’s campus grounds in search of a tree to sleep in or a bird to chase. Seeing this as a dilemma, the other scientists tried to find ways to keep her human side in control. Medication was useless. For one Taika would refuse to take it. She would kick, bite, scratch, and always manage to spit out any pills fed to her. Shots seemed to be useless as well. A squirmy Taika could somehow always manage to get out of their grasp and hide somewhere out of sight until the needles were gone. Their last resort was shock therapy, but that only seemed to make her worse, putting her instincts into overdrive to a point where she broke free of the restraints and slaughtered two of the lab techs, tearing their throats out with her bare hands before gutting them and dragging them down the hall a ways before being sedated. This was all at the tender age of thirteen. By the time she was fifteen, Taika was being kept in a cage. She was considered a failure and had been deemed too unpredictable in how her instincts affected her to be let alone to roam around on her own. Taika spent much of her time asleep, but when she awoke she would bite and claw at the bars of the cage, reaching out to try and grab anyone who wandered too close. The longer they contained her, the wilder she got. Unable to stand seeing his daughter undergo such harsh treatment, her father released her against his better judgment. It would be his downfall. Taika burst forth from the cage and immediately went after anyone close to her. Her pent up rage at being trapped in a glorified box was let loose in the form of sharp claws and teeth. In minutes, the room was soaked with blood. It smeared the wall and stained her hands and mouth. Her father was not exempt from the massacre. After hording her kills in the corner and seeming to guard them for a while, Taika made her way out of the lab and into the snow covered hills of Finland. For years, Taika truly did live like a wild animal. She lived in the deserted woods of northern Finland, stealing clothes to stay warm and killing and eating whatever animals she happened upon. Her ability to wander near humans and not get caught, however would soon appear to be not quite so great. Word of what had happened at the laboratory had spread, and a few Rogues were sent to find Taika and take her back into custody. It was a bitch and a half, what with them tailing her in circles as she was tracking them as they attempting to track her, but eventually she was sedated and dragged back, this time to a much more welcoming place. While still a technically a lab, she was not put into a cage and no horrible tests were done to try and control her instincts. Instead, it was suggested she put her skills to a better use. Her stealth and ability to get just about anywhere were excellent skills one would look for in a spy. Taika took some convincing and time to trust her newfound friends, but eventually agreed to the idea. She was trained on a few of the finer points of being a spy, given room to develop her parkour skills, and of course allowed to roam about as she pleased. The years spent living as a wild animal and the space being given to her seemed to calm her inner wild cat enough that she was far more functionally on the human side of her genetics. However that didn’t hide the fact the people often turned up dead and gutted and partially eaten wherever she seemed to go on these little night runs of hers. Fast forward another few years and Taika has been a lovely little spy for the Rogues for a while now. By day she’s a lazy civilian, one to be seen napping in the park or simply trotting about town. By night, she goes to work leaping over rooftops and gathering information, having been told recently to keep a close eye on Alinari Academy and perhaps sweet talk a few of the students towards the Rogue side of things. Taika really doesn’t care about the whole army thing, just so long as she gets to run around at night and sleep whenever she likes.
