Don't be fooled, though. She doesn't mean to scare people off; it's simply her natural expression. If one looks closely, though, they would notice that her grey-blue eyes, ones that sometimes switch to a brownish tinge, has a hint of softness in them. Unfortunately, one has to look extremely closely to see it. Kaia has dark black hair that might seem a bit brown when in the sun. She makes sure to keep it short, no longer than her chin. Though Kaia's features are not as defined as others, they're definitely past the age of youth; it's that of an adult. In terms of her body, Kaia is a tall woman with a very petite stature. Unlike others, Kaia does not dwell in physical combat so her muscles aren't toned. She is not overly curvaceous nor is she flat but somewhere in the pleasant middle. Because she takes long morning jogs, her skin is lightly tanned. For the most part, Kaia makes sure that she dresses very professionally. When working, she is usually seen with a blouse with either a pencil skirt or slacks. Coupled with it is usually a pair of black sensible heels. Her color scheme lies mostly in the whites, blacks, and greys, yet it is not rare for her to venture out once in a while. When out and about doing errands, she usually trades this attire in for jeans and a blouse or a light summer dress. At home, however, don't be surprised to see her in oversized shirts and short shorts. Home is home, after all. She's free to wear whatever she wants. PERSONALITY Kaia is generally known as a quiet reserved woman. Because she doesn't like standing out, she generally chooses to remain in her classroom so as not to cause attention on herself. Other than teaching her class, she rarely talks to anyone. If people do try to start a conversation with her, don't expect much. She mostly gives one sentence answers. Because of this, she seems unintentionally cold to most people. Other people might mistaken this as being stuck-up. It doesn't help that she's rather strict with her class. This probably works in turn with her strict personality. She will not allow stupid humor or insubordination in her classroom. If she even catches someone breaking the rules, she won't hesitate to send them to the Headmaster's Office. Because her power is not something she can willingly turn off, Kaia notices when something is out of the ordinary. In that sense, one can say that she is very observant. Because of this, she is an understanding person. Her power requires such a trait from her. If she senses something wrong if her students do something strange or even against the rules, she will make sure to listen to their reasoning before deciding judgment. Her students might be surprised to see how generous Kaia can be. If the student has a good reason, Kaia would probably allow them to redo the work they either messed up on or missed. Kaia is very generous in other senses. She'll pay for lunch if one of her student's forgot their wallet. Kaia is also calm person. Even if someone is trying to provoke her to react in anger, don't expect anything. At most, she'd give a long stare before sending the offender straight to the Headmaster's office. In terms of work, Kaia is a perfectionist. While she is not the type of teacher that expects perfect papers from everyone, she expects this from herself. If someone stopped by her room in the early evening, they would be surprised to see her still working. Somehow, though, as perfect as she wants her work to be, Kaia is extremely clumsy. She has the magnificent ability to trip over her own feet. Not only in that sense, she is very clumsy in her speech and actions. Don't be surprised to hear her say or do rude things. Please take into account that she doesn't do any of these things on purpose. Everything is unintentional. While she hates to do so, she can use her knowledge about the other person to attack them mentally and emotionally. Even though she is conscious of the fact that she can manipulate others through emotion, she chooses not to do so. Her power is the most successful when used in interrogation. While Kaia has unlocked much of her ability, she knows she still has a long way to go. She's able to sense the emotions of others the strongest within a ten foot radius and it becomes weaker farther out. HISTORY It was during the United States second civil war that the newly wedded Roethe couple began expecting a baby. It certainly was not the best of times. They lived right along the northern border of Oklahoma, after all. The war forced the couple to retreat South for fear that their newborn baby might get hurt. Eventually, the wife had to give birth in the back of a trailer due to the hospitals being overcrowded with injured war victims and soldiers. Their problems did not start there. From her birth, Kaia's parents could tell that their daughter was not normal. The baby would cry endlessly and nothing the parents could do would soothe her. It was as if Kaia could sense the fear the war brought about. Kaia's strange mood swings did not quell as she grew older. Even when the family moved into a safe area, the parents would find Kaia as happy as a bunny one moment, then as violent as a tiger the next. Her parents would get phone calls from the school claiming that Kaia suddenly broke down crying or that she wouldn't stop playing. In the beginning, the parents scolded Kaia, perhaps assuming she acted out to get attention. Honestly, Kaia had no clue as to why her moods changed so suddenly. When she was at home, she felt normal, yet when she went to school, she felt bombarded with different feelings that Kaia didn't know how to deal with them. In the end, it influenced her to do the strangest things. Kaia was checked to see if she was an Empowered child when she turned fourteen. When the results came back in positive, Kaia was not sure how to react. A part of her was relieved that finally found a place where she belonged yet another part worried if her parents would abandon her. That's what most did, after all. To Kaia's surprise, her parents hugged her and her mother started to cry. Instead of ordering her to leave, they apologized for not understanding what their little girl was going through. Because they did not want her to continue life plagued with little skill in handling her tiring power, the family moved to Sicuro, Italy to enroll their daughter in the Alinari Academy. In the time since then, her parents gave birth to a boy. Those years at the Academy taught Kaia that while she could not turn off her power, she could find a way to cope with it. Though her parents were not happy to see their daughter take on such a quiet persona, they were simply glad to see that their daughter was happy. The more Kaia progressed in her learnings, the more she learned about the mind in general. It's processes fascinated her. Thus, when she became old enough, she became a psychology major and later became the psychology teacher at the Alinari Academy where she currently works to this day.
