She doesn’t have much muscle mass and tends to bruise easily. Her skin is a bit paler than you’d think from being cooped up inside so much, although with a bit of sunlight she looks slightly tan. Celia’s hair hangs straight to her waist and is a dirty blonde color that tries very hard to look brown but isn’t quite dark enough. Her eyes are dark and couldn’t be more doll-like due to her long eyelashes. Her makeup is always expertly done and she wouldn’t be caught dead not wearing any. Celia always looks like she’s dressed for a funeral or some other somber occasion that isn’t like to be much fun. There are no bright colors in her wardrobe; it’s all darker shades of blue, purple, grey, and green although she usually just resorts to wearing black. Casual isn’t a word Celia is very familiar with. All of her clothes consist mainly of long sleeves; longer skirts that reach just past her knee, and dresses. Lace, silk, chiffon, and tulle are all common occurrences in her closet. Knee socks and stocking of some sort are always a part of her outfit, and as far as shoes go you’ll usually catch her in Mary Jane’s. While all of her jewelry is expensive, Celia keeps it to a minimum, usually only sporting a pair of earrings and a necklace. PERSONALITY Celia is a spoiled brat in the most classic sense of the world. Having had everything handed to her on a silver platter since the day she was born, she is very much used to getting her way and absolutely hates when she is denied. However she is a very strange case in the sense that she also insists on doing very specific things herself. She is fine with being spoiled but hates being coddled. If she tells you to do something, you’d better do it, but God forbid you help her. It’s very confusing for anyone who knows her, and at times it seems that even Celia herself doesn’t know what it is she really wants. Celia thinks very highly of herself. She doesn’t handle failure well, and to her making a mistake on anything pretty much is the equivalent of the world ending in her eyes. She throws things and blames other people for her own shortcomings to try and make herself look better. While she generally speaks in a very polite manner, she is very short with people and tries to move through the conversation as quickly as possible. The main reason for this is because throughout her entire life, she’s never really had anyone she could really call a friend. With her family background being what it is, most of the people she would run into back in Genoa were scared shitless of her. Part of her unwillingness to talk to people is that she thinks she’s better than them, and the other part is that she genuinely has no idea how to make friends. Celia generally keeps her temper on a tight leash, but a surefire way to get her riled is to either insult her or her family despite how much she supposedly hates them. She’ll throw insults around but she’ll rarely ever throw a punch due the fact that she is not very strong and she knows it. She’d much rather give someone a verbal thrashing than try to physically fight them. Make no mistake, though, she will have her vengeance. She’ll just be sneaky about it. Sadness is not something you’ll see Celia going through. She’s been to one funeral too many in her young life, and now crying seems to be something she is no longer capable of. She’s generally quite somber looking by default, but it takes a lot to even make her tear up in the slightest. Fear is also something that is highly unlikely to make an appearance. Being the daughter of an Italian mob boss, she does not scare easily. The only thing that truly scares her is her family. While she remains loyal to them out of a sense that she has no other choice, she avoids talking about them at all costs unless she’s trying to intimidate someone or assert her social status as a means of making herself look good. On a day to day basis, Celia appears generally cold and uninterested in what’s going on around her. She throws herself into studying for a lack of having anything else to do. She rarely talks to people, and when she does she tries to keep the conversation short because she doesn’t know what to say. Celia hardly ever smiles and is more likely to look confused at a joke rather than laugh at one. A surefire way to get her talking, though, it weapons of any and all kinds. With her family being entirely made up of illegal arms dealers, she knows the ins and outs of every gun, knife, sword, or whatever else you can think of that’s out there. It’s one of the few things she actually enjoys discussing. EXTRAS Likes: + Opera + Guns + Art + Open Spaces + Getting her way Dislikes: - Her family - Silence - Chores - Peanus (she’s deathly allergic) - Yelling Talents: + Violin - Celia originally took up the violin as another attempt to please her father. It failed, but it became another way for her to release any pent up emotions she had been bottling up inside. She is skilled enough to play any piece you put in front of her without much difficulty and also composes at random, although she rarely ever finishes the pieces she starts once she’s calmed down. + Shooting - Celia grew up around guns and knew how to shoot one by the time she was five. By the age of eight she was a good enough shot that she hardly needed target practice. While it’s a skill she’d likely never had learned if not for being one of the Grimaldi’s, it’s something she loves to do. Despite being inherently violent, it soothes her and she spends a good deal of her time at the shooting range. It helps her blow off steam after a particularly frustrating day. + Painting – Having quite a bit of free time to herself being cooped up in the house all day, Celia began to show her interest in art by painting. Starting when she was a little girl, she works mainly with watercolors. It’s very therapeutic to her and always gets her to calm down when she’s in a rage or her family has done something else that upsets her. COMBAT Strengths: + Quick Reflexes + Strategic + Intelligent Weaknesses: - Physically Weak - Low Stamina - Low Endurance Power Strengths: + Ability to deafen an opponent for three to five minutes + Shriek briefly enough to merely cause a ringing in an opponent’s ears + Can shatter glass Power Weaknesses: - Can unintentionally hurt others around her - Her power will misfire if she raises her voice to a certain level regardless if she means to or not - Will become winded after using her powers for any extended period of time Power: Celia’s powers lie in her voice. The young woman has the ability to generate vocalizations of a higher amplitude than a normal human, i.e. Sonic Screams. It’s the reason why Celia may glare, curse, or tell you to go fuck yourself but never, ever scream. The average scream that she emits is powerful enough to shatter glass and give you a ringing in your ears after the headache subsides. While her screams, at the worst, can temporarily deafen, their drawbacks are the reason why she avoids using them. Celia knows all too well that her powers are not selective in who they affect. Anyone around her, friend or foe, will be affected by her shrieks. In addition, using her powers for any extended period of time greater than fifteen minutes will result in her having difficulty breathing. She will start to wheeze and need to sit down somewhere to rest for a while. HISTORY Celia Rosario Grimaldi was the third and final child born to her parents. Her mother Amalia was a frail woman who died shortly after giving birth to her daughter. Her father, Durante, coped with the loss of his wife by focusing on the new addition to the Grimaldi family. In Italy, the Grimaldi’s are one of the most feared mafia families around. Considering they primarily deal in the illegal arms trade, it’s no wonder. As the youngest and also a girl, Celia at the very least didn’t have to worry about one day taking over the family business. Her old brother Ezio would be the one to do that. The middle child, her brother Vasco, was more of a failsafe in case anything should happen to the first born son. While originally doted on as an infant, Celia was eventually being looked after by either a nanny or aunt or cousin by the time she was three. She scarcely saw her father regularly until she was thirteen. The only holiday the entire family would be together for was Christmas which brought the added joy of paternal affection in addition to her nanny’s pumpkin spice bread. Even on her birthday, there was no guarantee he would visit her. Ezio made it a habit to pick on his younger sister. The insults ranged from calling her deadweight to calling her a murderer and insisting that had she not been born, their mother would still be alive. She only ever retaliated once and was harshly reprimanded by her father for doing so. Vasco, on the other hand, was another story. Never receiving much attention himself, he knew vaguely how little Celia felt and spent as much with her as he could. He was the one who taught her how to shoot, properly use a knife, and how to best get out of a sticky situation if her bodyguards weren’t there to protect her. The latter was hardly a worry. Although she was destined to be nothing more than a pawn, Celia’s family grew increasingly controlling of her as she got older. She was homeschooled, her father having hired the best tutors he could find from all over Italy. Celia was by no means stupid and excelled in each subject she tried, always trying to surpass her previous efforts in an attempt to gain her father’s approval. It never worked. She took up violin thinking perhaps that would get his attention. It didn’t. When Celia was thirteen, she discovered her powers. Ezio was hassling her again, calling her murderous wretch that should’ve been stillborn. Fed up with her brother’s bullshit, Celia turned around to scream at him. Rather than words, though, a shriek erupted from her lips that shattered the windows and left her older brother with permanent hearing damage. For a while, the Grimaldi family was completely puzzled. No such thing had ever happened before, at least not in their line. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that her mother’s line was the one with the empowered blood. Rather than investigate the matter further, Celia’s empowered status was ignored entirely apart from the fact that she was told to never, ever raise her voice for any reason. She became an outcast amongst the other Grimaldi’s with just about everyone thinking she was some sort of freak of nature. Celia gradually learned how to control her vocal tones a bit better on her own. She certainly had the time. As she grew older, she also saw more of the bad side of the Grimaldi’s. While she had attended several funerals as a child, she became more of aware of them as she aged into her teens. She would hear her brothers and other relatives speak of rival crime families and murder plots. Wanting nothing to do with such things, Celia tried to tune them out. Things didn’t start getting bad until she was fourteen. As Ezio grew older he was becoming every bit the cunning asshole his father wanted to take over the family business. With Vasco usually at his side, Celia was left alone more and more often. Feeling ignored and unappreciated, she decided to run away from home. Scaling the ivy covered walls to freedom was no small feet; in fact she didn’t even succeed. She was caught and harshly scolded. Where would she go? How would she get there? How would she eat? Where would she sleep? She had nothing beyond the walls of the Grimaldi household. Celia knew this, she just didn’t care. Another year passed and, once again, she tried to run away. This time she got much further. She managed to scale the wall and run three blocks before her father’s guards caught her. This time she was in even more trouble. She was a daughter of the Grimaldi crime family, it wasn’t appropriate for her to run away. She knew too many faces and too much about the family business to walk the streets alone or to be let out of her father’s sight. Durante locked his daughter in her room for a month before he let her roam freely about the house again. This didn’t deter Celia. If anything, it encouraged her. The more she desired escape, the more apparent it became that her father had no qualms about getting rid of his own daughter to keep her mouth shut should she successfully get away from him. While Celia was determined, she was not stupid. Fearful of what would become of her, she decided that there had to be a more discreet way to flee from her family and their potential wrath. In her search of asylum, she came across Alinari Academy. The thing that appealed most to her: Valerio Caruso. She recognized the name of the academy’s headmaster as belonging to her cousin. Their interaction had been sparse but she knew her family tree by heart. If anyone could get her away from her father, it would be another family member. Contacting Valerio with her dilemma, she convinced him to speak with her father. Airing on the side of caution, the pretense was that Celia would attend Alinari Academy in order to learn better control over her powers so that she may help the Grimaldi crime family in some way. However, her true intentions would be to find freedom with her cousin’s help, to find somewhere she could run without having to constantly look over her shoulder worrying about whether her own brother would be waiting to put a bullet in her head. An agreement was reached, and so Celia was off to Alinari. MISCELLANEOUS Alias: Leila Other Characters: Carys Sayer Faceclaim: Speed Grapher, Tennozu Kagura; Celia Grimaldi |
